Warriors Show Heart Despite Setback at Brookville

Dayton Christian delivered a spirited effort on the road Tuesday night but ultimately fell to Brookville, 61–51, in a competitive matchup. The loss moves the Warriors to 6–5 overall and 2–3 in conference play, yet the performance once again highlighted the team’s resilience and continued growth.

The opening quarter was a back-and-forth contest. Junior Rylan Slavens opened the scoring with a three-pointer, and senior Reid Collins followed with a pair of threes to keep the Warriors within striking distance. Collins finished the first quarter with 6 points as Dayton Christian trailed just 15–13 heading into the second.

Brookville created separation in the second quarter, using a decisive 12–0 run and hot perimeter shooting to take a 33–18 lead into halftime. But the Warriors responded with toughness—something that is becoming a defining trait of this group. Sophomore Henry Meredith sparked the offense in the third quarter, scoring 8 points in the period and finishing with a team-high 12 on efficient shooting.

The game also carried special meaning for Head Coach Devvin Hartman, a homecoming of sorts returning to his alma mater in Brookville—the place where his high school basketball journey began and where he and his teammates captured a conference title during his senior season in 2019. His Warriors squad rose to the occasion with the same resilience and belief he pours into them daily. Hartman never gives up on his players and continues to coach them through every challenge, and they reflected that loyalty right back, competing with a determination that showcased their shared bond.

Dayton Christian made one final push in the fourth. Senior Asa Crockett powered the late surge with 6 of his 9 points in the final frame, while Collins added 10 for the game and senior Caden Shepherd chipped in 9 with strong interior play. Though the comeback fell short, the Warriors’ effort, unity, and competitive fire were unmistakable.

The Warriors are on the road again Friday 1/9 traveling to play Carlisle at 7:15pm. JV will tip at 6pm.
