The Dayton Christian Boys Varsity Basketball team faced a tough stretch of road competition to start their season, showing both resilience and growth as a team.
On Saturday 11/29, the Warriors battled a sharp-shooting and well-coached Troy Christian squad. Despite a determined effort, Dayton Christian fell 63–50 as the Eagles controlled the pace and executed efficiently on both ends of the floor. Senior Brayden Kidd led the way for DC with an impressive 22 points, attacking the basket and keeping his team within striking distance. Senior Reid Collins added 11 points, while senior Asa Crockett hauled in 8 rebounds, fighting hard on the boards to create scoring opportunities. Though the Warriors came up short, their grit and leadership were evident throughout the contest.
The following Tuesday night, Dayton Christian bounced back in thrilling fashion with a 44–41 road victory over Talawanda. The win marked both the first career victory for new head coach Devvin Hartman and the program’s first Southwestern Buckeye League (SWBL) triumph as a new member of the conference. Senior Asa Crockett came up clutch in the closing seconds, grabbing a huge offensive rebound and sinking a free throw with 6.8 seconds remaining to seal the win. Crockett finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds, while fellow senior Brayden Kidd added 10 points. Seniors Caden Shepherd and Reid Collins chipped in 7 points apiece, and junior Rylan Slavens contributed 5 points and 5 rebounds to round out a balanced team effort.
This past Tuesday night, Dayton Christian delivered a commanding road performance, defeating Graham 72-46 to improve their record to 2-1. The Warriors overcame an early deficit and turned the game into a dominant display of offensive execution and team basketball, outscoring Graham by 26 points in an impressive away victory.
The game opened with back-and-forth action as Graham jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and extended the margin to 21-13 early in the second quarter. Dayton Christian quickly found its rhythm, responding with a 7-0 run to tie the game. Trailing 25-21 midway through the quarter, the Warriors erupted with a decisive surge. Senior Reid Collins sparked the comeback with a crucial three-pointer that gave Dayton Christian its first lead at 26-25, and from there the team never looked back. Senior Asa Crockett took control during this pivotal stretch, scoring steadily from the field and the free-throw line to build the advantage.
Crockett led the Warriors with 21 points, shooting 47% from the field, hitting 5 of 7 free throws, and grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds. Senior Brayden Kidd added 13 points on 50% shooting, while Sophomore Henry Meredith impressed in his first varsity start with a career-high 12 points, including two three-pointers, on 71% shooting.
