Braden Fleming and Logan Denhardt represented the Warriors at the OHSAA Division III Southwest District Tournament today. After qualifying as individuals at last week’s sectional, they teed it up against the region’s best at Heatherwoode, their teammates cheering and supporting every shot.

Braden posted a 78 (39-39), including a birdie on the par-4 13th, and finished 18 holes in a four-way tie for the last spot in the state finals. Logan carded a 94 (45-49) and finished in the middle of the field.

That sent Braden and three others back onto the course for sudden death, with the largest gallery of the day walking with them. On the first extra hole, Braden found the middle of the fairway, 130 yards from the pin. The wind came up on the approach and left him a few yards short. He pitched about eight feet past, then rolled a perfect putt in to keep the playoff alive. It ended on the second extra hole, the long par-3 17th, when a tricky four-footer for par slid by.

It was a season of growth for both players. Their scores were lower than a year ago, and their standards were higher — the mark of competitors always trying to get better.
