Warriors Show Grit in Hard-Fought Battle but Fall to Waynesville 48–38

Dayton Christian battled hard in a competitive home matchup against Waynesville but came up short 48–38, bringing their season record to 6–4 overall and 2–2 in conference play. Despite the loss, the Warriors showed tremendous fight and had several players step up with strong performances throughout the contest.

The first half featured exciting back-and-forth action with multiple lead changes that kept fans engaged from the opening tip. After Waynesville jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, Dayton Christian responded with determination. Senior Caden Shepherd led the early charge, scoring 5 first-quarter points to keep the Warriors within striking distance at 15–13.

The momentum shifted in the second quarter as Dayton Christian mounted an impressive comeback. Shepherd tied the game at 15–15 before sophomore Henry Meredith buried a three-pointer to give the Warriors their first lead at 18–15. Shepherd continued to anchor the offense, adding 6 more points in the period and helping DC head into halftime tied 22–22. He finished with a double-double, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds, both of which were team highs.

Meredith provided a crucial spark, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field, including 2-for-2 from deep, for 8 points. Senior Asa Crockett added 6 points on strong interior play despite having two field goals erased by offensive fouls. Senior Reid Collins battled through a tough shooting night but contributed 6 points by attacking the rim and converting 4 of 5 free throws.

Waynesville created separation in the third quarter with a decisive scoring run, but the Warriors continued to compete and find ways to score late in the game. Senior Brayden Kidd chipped in 5 points, and the team’s effort and togetherness never wavered.
Dayton Christian once again showed its trademark toughness and unity, gaining valuable experience that will serve them well as the season progresses. The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, January 6 at 7:15pm, traveling to face SWBL conference opponent Brookville. JVB and JV games are scheduled for 4:30pm and 6:00pm.
